Beautiful scenic spots for photographers in Southport

Kings Gardens

In summer, the Gardens that border the Marine Lake are a hive of fun and activity.  Swan pedalos glide across the lake.  Local and visiting families enjoy the green spaces and playgrounds.

In the quieter times, it’s a beautiful place for a relaxing stroll with a coffee or ice-cream in hand.

Walk along the Venetian bridges, which present a great photo opportunity with picturesque views over the Marine Lake.  The famous Victorian shelters that line Kings Gardens are often a focal point for landscape shots.

Lord Street

Southport’s central tree-lined boulevard is a fantastic spot for photography enthusiasts.

The mile-long street features a vast array of Victorian and Edwardian architecture and cast-iron verandas.  You’ll also find multiple gardens and public spaces, a hundred-year-old war memorial, and a historic bandstand.

Head to Harry’s Sky Bar for a late afternoon drink.  The perfect spot to watch the sun setting over the Southport skyline and to take an aerial shot of Lord St in the sunset.

The Atkinson

The beautiful grade II listed building is an iconic Southport landmark and makes for a stunning subject to photograph.

The Atkinson and the surrounding areas are the centrepiece for lots of activities in the town centre.  A particularly lovely photo opportunity is presented in summertime, when the fountains of Town Hall Gardens flow in the foreground.

Wayfarers Arcade

Set back off Lord Street, Wayfarers Arcade is a celebrated Victorian shopping arcade set over two levels. The stunning architecture on display is a draw for visitors from all around.

The Arcade makes for a great selfie and a beautiful background for photoshoots.

Whilst you’re there, make sure to visit Wayfarers’ independent shops, cafes, and the creative co-working space The Engine Room.

Southport by Night

There’s no need to worry if you miss golden hour here in Southport.  By night, the town centre bursts into life with dazzling illuminations.

Lord Street shines bright thanks to the ‘Boulevard of Light’, with 300,000 LED lights decorating the famous boulevard.  ‘The beautiful ‘Canopy of Light’ casts a glow over the nightlife atmosphere of Scarisbrick Avenue.

Christmas is another spectacle entirely.  A 60ft LED tree, illuminated characters, and town-wide decorations are a festive treat for local photographers and visitors alike.

Beyond Southport

The surrounding Sefton Coast is home to incredible shoreline scenery.  Just a short walk from Southport town centre, you can stand atop the sand dunes and be treated to the incredible vistas.

Further afield, Formby Pinewoods offers an exquisite setting for a sundown stroll.  The golden sands of Ainsdale and Formby beaches are glorious all year-round and Another Place at Crosby is a must-visit for landscape photographers.
