JT Akshaya picks up top prize for new business

A mesmerising new restaurant in Southport offers four magical zones inside where diners can dine in style.
JT Akshaya opened at 4-6 Coronation Walk in Southport town centre in September last year, offering delicious authentic southern Indian and Sri Lankan food.
The restaurant won the New Business of the Year Award and was a Finalist in the Restaurant of the Year category in the Your Southport Stars Awards, organised by Southport BID, at The Grand on Tuesday (13th May 2025).
The former Phoenix pub site has been transformed by owners Tommy Rose and Jaya Haran with a variety of eye-catching spaces that can be experienced through individual tables, or booked in whole for parties, celebrations or special events.
JT Akshaya has plans to further expand its offer this year as it develops a new breakfast menu and earlier opening times, and plans to introduce outside seating.
You will also be able to see their team at local events including Southport Food and Drink Festival at Victoria Park in Southport on 30th May - 2nd June 2025.
Vineesh Abraham, the Manager at JT Akshaya in Southport, said:
“It’s wonderful seeing people’s reaction when they first walk in the restaurant!
“It’s very eye-catching, with the four zones all looking very different to each other.
“It is very different to anything else there is in Southport.
“You can come and dine with us and each time feel from the decor as though you are in a different venue each time.
“We have a cherry blossom area, with a tree and blossom surrounding you; we have an area with a large fish tank, filled with beautiful fish swimming by; we have a zone which looks like you’re inside a cave, which is a romantic place to be; we have a starlight area, which gives the impression you’re sitting under twinkling stars.

“People who experience it say they’ve never seen anything like it; it’s why they love to come back again and again! We have some really loyal customers who keep coming back.
“We have had huge support from people in Southport since we opened. We are grateful for all their kind comments and reviews on the Southport Food Reviews Facebook group, on TripAdvisor and on Google Reviews. People have been very kind.
“We are very proud to have been shortlisted in two categories in the Southport BID Your Southport Stars Awards - for Best New Restaurant and Best New Business.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming customers this summer and we have some exciting new changes planned.
“We have applied to Sefton Council for a licence for outdoor tables and chairs, and are just waiting for their go-ahead.
“People are wowed when they walk into our restaurant and see what it looks like inside; but some people locally still don’t know we’re here! We’re really keen to spread the word and to invite people to come and discover what we have to offer.
“JT Akshaya is famous for authentic Sri Lankan and south Indian food, which we cook fresh for people to enjoy.
“There is lots of choice on our menu, where we also offer steaks, pasta, and salads.
“We have an excellent variety of vegan and vegetarian meals, as well as Gluten free dishes, and we are mindful of diners with any allergens.
“We offer excellent value with a two course menu, which includes a drink, for just £22.99 and a three course menu, which also includes a drink, for £27.99, which we run all week. We open seven days a week, from 1pm to 11pm.
“Every Monday we have a steak night, where you can order two steaks and a bottle of wine for just £38.90.
“We sell our own brands of wine - red, white and rose - and our own beer called Akshaya.
“We are now offering a free space for birthdays and small events (up to 50 people) from Sunday to Thursday.
“We are looking forward to launching our new breakfast menu very soon, along with our earlier opening hours, from 10am.
“It will include traditional English breakfasts and dishes such as Eggs Benedict, Pancakes, and more. But it will also have Dosas, which are a traditional south Indian breakfast.
“Dosas are incredibly popular in India! They are delicious. Dosas are thin, savoury crepes with a variety of fillings that are served with chutney and sambar.
“We know that once people try Dosas they are going to love them!
“We are taking them to Southport Food and Drink Festival to introduce them to people to see what they think - after that we will unveil them on our new menu so they can come here and try them.”
