Six Indian and South Asian restaurants to try in Southport town centre

Feasts from the East! 🍛

Are you mad about masala? Do you get delirious over daal?  If so, look no further than our list of Indian and South Asian restaurants based in Southport.

The town centre offers a diverse mix of international restaurants, including fantastic Italian bistros, a thriving café culture, and some of the best fish and chips for miles around.

Southport is one of the best towns for spice fans and curry lovers in the North West.  There are legendary Indian restaurants that locals head back to time-after-time, as well as some new venues that are doing things a little differently.

So ‘chaat’ it over with the group and use our list of Indian and South Asian restaurants to help choose your next curry in Southport.

Great Himalayas and Royal Himalayas

Great Himalayas has become a staple of the Southport food scene in recent years.  Highlights from their menu of boldy-flavoured Nepalese food include Momos, Himali Lamb Chops and crispy, flavourful Naan Breads.  The Lamb Achari curry is essential, an absolute delight.

Don’t to rely solely on our recommendation.  Great Himalayas was highly commended by the Nation’s Curry Awards and received local support at the 2024 Your Southport Stars Awards.

The fact that Prakash and team opened their second venue in 2024 is further proof of quality.  Royal Himalayas is just as good, offering all of the above from their new Eastbank Street location.

The Taj Mahal

This family-run Indian restaurant based on Bath Street has been a popular choice for local curry lovers for a long time.

There are two things you can be sure of when visiting ‘The Taj’.  The first is (predictably) exceptional food.  Their menu covers all the classics and celebrates traditional, wholesome Indian cuisine.  Korai, Tava Lahori, and Mansuri dishes to name just a few.

Then there’s the service. The friendly team welcome newcomers as long-standing regulars and are always attentive and charming throughout your visit.

You will be planning your next visit before the bill arrives.

Kalash Divine Indian

Kalash is not your typical Indian restaurant.

Think Roast Black-Pepper Duck, Chicken Chettinad, and tandoori seafood dishes.

Owners Ranjeet, Alvino, and a team of experienced chefs specialise in a high quality menu that includes modern takes on classic dishes and Indian street food staples.

Kalash expanded in 2024 due to high demand.  This is another venue that local people have certainly taken to their hearts.
