Southport town centre has never been short of top-quality Italian food.

Our independent Italians are well known for warm and welcoming hospitality.  Many have provided memorable evenings for generations of local families.

Nowadays, there’s a combination of long-standing favourites and up and coming new venues.

Here's a summary of some of the best independent Italian restaurants in Southport, perfect for food lovers seeking authentic flavours and memorable meals in a range of formal and more relaxed settings.

Gusto Trattoria

Set back off Lord Street, Gusto has the habit of stopping hungry passers-by in their tracks with irresistible aromas.

The corner restaurant has served up freshly cooked Italian food in Southport since 2005.  Today, you’ll choose from a tasty menu of wood-fired pizzas, pastas, and delectable salads.  All diets are extremely well catered for, with vegetarian and plant-based options both having dedicated space on the Trattoria’s menu.

Top tip: Make sure to check out the specials board, on which you will often find creamy risottos and fresh fish dishes.

Volare

The third-generation family restaurant where everyone is met with a smile.

The pizza and pasta options are as equally tasty as they are abundant, but any regular patron will rightly tell you that Volare shines with its meat and fish dishes.  You’ll have plenty of Veal specialities to choose from, if that’s your sort of thing.  Poached Asparagus for starter is also an absolute must.

The last few years have seen the ever-popular restaurant go from strength to strength.  2023 saw the team move to a stunning a new space (albeit only a few doors down).  In recognition of this hard work, the public then voted for Volare as their ‘Restaurant of the Year’ in both the 2024 and 2025 Your Southport Stars Awards.

Top tip: Keep a look out for one of Volare’s ever-popular wine tasting nights.

Pizzeria Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia's is a stalwart of the Southport restaurant scene.  This family restaurant has been serving up Italian and Sardinian dishes to the people to of Southport for over 40 years.

Pizzas are aplenty and all the classic mains are covered, but we never look pasta Pasta during a visit to Mamma Mias.  The Sardinian-style Gnochetti El Ragu Pecorino is a meaty, cheesy delight.

Top tip: Book early on weekends as tables (understandably) fill up quickly.

Southport Market

There’s a couple of options at Southport Market if you find yourself craving an Italian food fix.

600 Degrees are the experts on the Neapolitan style pizza slice.  Their oven, custom-built in Naples to guarantee an authentic pizza experience, produces produces light, puffy-crusted pizzas to order. You can choose from classics such as Capricciosa, Marinara, as well as their Moroccan Lamb pizza topped with yoghurt and spices.

Pasta 51 Express invites you to build your own pasta dish. Choose between a range of slow-cooked sauces, including Arrabbiata, Bolognese, and our favourite…Spinach Pesto.

Roberto’s

The much heralded, contemporary Italian is located at Ocean Plaza; just a short walk from the Southport coast and neighbouring leisure offerings.

You’ll find an extensive menu which offers something for everyone.  Chicken Cacciatore, Fettucini Alfredo, and Gambas Roberto (named after the man himself). Roberto’s also serve up a selection of home-made desserts and plenty for the little ones to choose from too.

Top tip: With Vue Cinema just a few doors over, Roberto’s is your perfect pre/post movie meal!

Sapori

Since opening in 2023, Sapori has continued to grow in popularity.

The restaurant and bar, located at the heart of Lord Street, is the perfect setting for some al-fresco dining come summertime.  Their menu offers a wide selection of pizza and pasta, as well as traditional mains and salads.

Top tip:  Pay a visit to Sapori’s sister bar Casablanca, which is handily located next door but one.

Burrata

Burrata is a true hidden gem and is very much the baby of this list, having only opened its doors in 2024.  That hasn’t stopped them gaining a reputation for fresh, stone baked pizzas and welcoming, attentive service.

Top tip: Can’t make it into the town centre?  Burrata offers an extensive menu for collection and delivery.
