- Digital Native Ricky Courtman Finds Work Life Balance In Southport
Discovering work-life balance on the coast
"Life here is the perfect complement for a digital native."
Experienced digital marketing professional Ricky Courtman relocated to Southport in 2024.
Before that, he and his family had moved back to the UK from Spain but were yet to find the perfect place to settle down and build a future.
“I have absolutely no regrets. It’s been an incredible experience so far and we really enjoy our time here."
Ricky is an experienced technical marketer, who’s main skills include data analysis, statistical analysis, computing and coding.
He helps businesses by developing new software, proprietary tech, and marketing strategies to facilitate businesses growth.
He joins a growing scene of digital and creative professionals who are tapping into the benefits of life in Southport.
The coastal town is in the midst of a significant era of regeneration and economic diversification, bolstered by a number of transformative large-scale developments and the emergence of a ground-breaking regional full-fibre network.
Excellent transport links to major cities (Liverpool and Manchester) proved to be another selling point for Ricky, as well as the close proximity of areas of natural beauty in Southport, Sefton and beyond.
“I think Southport is very appealing for people who work in the digital sector because of the outdoor living benefits the town presents.”
“There’s a lot of places nearby to escape to day to day of my job.”
Ricky enjoys picturesque places such Formby Beach and the abundant saltmarshes to the north of Southport.
“Life here is the perfect complement for a digital native. You have the fresh air and escapism of The Marine Lake and the beaches.”
“I also have one young daughter and she absolutely loves Southport!”

Ricky runs his operations from The Engine Room, a town centre co-working and co-learning space based in the historic Wayfarers Arcade.
He works in the Quiet Coach amongst fellow professionals, who will often come together in The Engine Room's cosy café to chat over coffee and pastries.
“There is a hotbed of creative talent in Southport and I enjoy meeting new people here. At The Engine Room there are illustrators and graphic designers who do very different things to me.”
He is keen to collaborate with local business further, and hopes his wealth of experience of in media/marketing, statistics and engineering can benefit others in the town centre.
Besides a busy work life and enjoying the natural beauty on offer, Ricky has been searching the town centre for his new favourite food spots.
“I would recommend the roast dinners at The Windmill to everyone; fantastic food and great value for money. The family’s favourite is pizza and pasta at Mamma Mia’s or steak at The Lansdowne Bistro.”
Southport is fast-becoming a place where creative and digital professionals can find rewards both in and out of the office.
Ricky is excited for many more years of success and happiness by the coast and invites fellow digital natives, seeking a new place to call home, to explore the benefits of life in Southport.
“Remove any preconceptions you have and give it a go. I think most would be very surprised by what Southport has to offer."
